The wide variety of uses for Lavender Essential Oil is truly astonishing; it is the number one oil for your medicine cabinet. It’s uses can be put into two categories:
Medicinal/ Relaxation and for around the Home.
Cuts, grazes and scars: With its strong wound-healing properties, lavender oil can be used on minor cuts and grazes, simply by dabbing a few drops straight onto the affected area.
Spots and skin irritations: Lavender oil is also anti-bacterial and anti-fungal. Used neat or added to water or creams, it can cleanse the skin and prevent and heal sebaceous spots and irritations.
Headaches: Lavender oil is mildly analgesic and a few neat drops of lavender oil gently massaged onto the temples can help stop a persistent headache.
Burns and sunburn: Lavender oil is an anti-inflammatory and can be used to cool, relieve and help heal burns and sunburn. A few drops applied to the affected area can do the trick.
Relaxation: Lavender oil is soothing, calming and relaxing. A few drops in a hot bath, or mixed with carrier oil for a massage, can ease away the day's stress and aid a good night's sleep. Sprinkle a few drops onto your pillow to help get a good night’s sleep.
Caution/Warning: If Pregnant or Nursing - please check with Physician or Naturopath before using. Do not use on Children under 24 months old. Citrus Essential Oils like Lemon and Orange are photosensitive, meaning they enhance sun rays and can cause sunburn. Avoid contact with eyes and mucus membranes. If sensitive, add oil drops to coconut or other vegetable carrier oil first before applying directly to skin.
General Use: Shake out 1-4 drops in palm of hand, taking 2 fingers from other hand - stir in clockwise motion to break up membranes of oil for better application and absorption. Children between 2-10 only 1 drop on bottom of feet.
Before using perform a small patch test on your inner forearm or back. Apply a small quantity of diluted essential oil and cover with a bandage. If you experience any irritation use carrier oil or cream to further dilute the essential oil, and then wash with soap and water. If no irritation occurs after 48 hours it is safe to use on your skin.
